Anne Arundel County will pay off all outstanding school meal debt for county public school students, Anne County Executive Steve Schuh announced Thursday.
"The holiday season is a time for generosity and giving to those who need it the most," Schuh said in a statement. "This small gesture is our way of showing that we understand the challenges that many working families in our county face."
The County Council passed Schuh's proposal on Monday. The funding will go to the 21st Century Education Foundation, which will send it to the school system.
"There is great need across our county and that need certainly impacts our students," Anne Arundel County Public Schools Superintendent George Arlotto said in a statement. "This effort will certainly help those students and their families, and we are most appreciative."
